Dr. Khatib joins us from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he served as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His background represents the pinnacle of surgical training and innovation.
While at MUSC, he performed the first “Jaw in a Day” procedures in South Carolina, including one of the youngest patients to ever receive the revolutionary procedure on her mandible. These procedures were featured on the front page of the “Post and Courier” and local news stations, highlighting his ability to handle complex reconstruction cases.
Education and Credentials
Dr. Khatib earned his dental degree from the University of Alberta, Canada, and his Medical Degree from the University of California Davis. His postgraduate training is extensive:
- Residency: University of California San Francisco (UCSF).
- Fellowship (Pediatric & Trauma): Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Randall’s Children’s Hospital in Adult and Pediatric Advanced Craniomaxillofacial and Trauma Surgery.
- Fellowship (Oncologic & Reconstructive): Providence Cancer Center in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery.
He is board certified by the American and Canadian Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. This dual certification underscores his commitment to the highest standards of safety and ethics in the field.
Scope of Practice
Dr. Khatib’s practice is diverse, covering Adult and Pediatric oral surgery including dental extractions, wisdom teeth removal, bone grafting, and dental and zygomatic implants. His specialized skills extend to oral head and neck microvascular reconstructive surgery, pathology, trauma surgery, sleep surgery, and corrective jaw surgery. In addition to his private practice work, he serves as the site director for education at Legacy Emanuel hospital for the Maxillofacial surgery service.
He lives in Portland and, when not at work, can be found cooking with his wife, staying active, and enjoying Portland’s great food scene!
